About Megabus

Megabus pioneered the modern budget intercity bus model in North America, launching curbside express service from Chicago in 2006 and quickly expanding to a national network. The brand is best known for its blue double-decker coaches and the headline-grabbing $1 fares released for a small block of seats on every route.

Network footprint

Megabus serves the densest network in the US Northeast and Midwest, with extensive Texas, California, Southeast and Canadian coverage added over the years. Most departures use curbside pickup at street-level stops rather than enclosed terminals.

Fare logic

Megabus uses dynamic pricing that starts low and rises as seats sell. The $1 promotional fare is real but limited to a few seats per departure released months in advance.

Baggage

One personal item under the seat plus one stowed underbus bag up to 50 lb included in the base fare. Additional bags $10 each, oversized items $25.

Booking and changes

Booking is online or via the Megabus app. Tickets are non-refundable but rebookable for a fee up to a few hours before departure.

Onboard amenities

  • Free onboard Wi-Fi (best-effort)
  • Power outlets at every row
  • Reclining leather seats
  • Onboard restroom
  • Reserved seating available for an upcharge
